Attack against lawyers: Advocates boycott courts in Andhra Pradesh

KAKINADA: Advocates from all Andhra Pradesh Bar Associations boycotted the state's courts in protest of the kidnapping and assassination of Bezawada Bar Association member Rayasam Adiseshu Vithal Babu on Monday.

Muppalla Subba Rao, AP Bar Council member and Indian Lawyers Association state honourary president stated that there had been a lot of attacks on advocates in recent times, as well as police filing bogus charges against the advocates.

He claimed that while attending civil court in Addanki, Prakasam district, some miscreants kidnapped the advocate, moved his cars to confuse the police, and brutally murdered him. He requested that the Central and state governments pass the Advocates Protection Act as soon as possible. He also stated that the state government should pass legislation similar to the Rajasthan government to safeguard advocates.

Meanwhile, the Kakinada Bar Association's advocates boycotted the courts on Monday in protest over the death of counsel Vithal. Muthinti Visweswara Rao, President of the Kakinada Bar Association, stated that unless the government passes the Advocates Protection Act, the attorneys will escalate the agitation.
