Mahatma Gandhi University crisis over society formation worsens
KOCHI: The crisis created in the wake of the formation of the Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS) to take care of the self-financing institutions so far controlled by the MG University is worsening. While both teachers and students of the SF institutions are agitating against the formation of the society, a section of the university staff are opposing the apportioning of Rs 50 crore from MG University fund to the CPAS.
The MG University official release the other day was mum on the move to give Rs 50 crore to the new society, CPAS. The move to make fresh recruitment to the SF institutions has invited the wrath of 500- odd staff of these SF institutions since they all were summarily sacked by the university to pave way for fresh appointments. It is being pointed out that this is against the stated principle in the formation of the society as it was stated that the varsity would be transferring both assets and liabilities of it to the new society.
“The move to sack the staff is for pushing in supporters of CPM into the institutions at the expense of those who have been working there,” said an employee of the MG University. Meanwhile, KSU has started agitations stating that the SF institutions don’t have teaching staff now as they have been sacked. The Syndicate meeting which was twice postponed in the wake of the agitations in this regard is now scheduled for Wednesday and is set to face another bout of unrest.
