Hyderabad: Green drive by school, students
Hyderabad: St Gabriel’s School and the residents of Raghavendra Colony, Uppal turned around what could have been a failed Haritha Haaram drive. Residents claim that municipal authorities brought around a 100 saplings and dumped it outside the school gates without paying heed to the school authorities' pleas to place it inside the school.
Dr Sathish Gabriel, the principal of St Gabriel's says, "The plants were scattered outside our gate and a lot of mud was displaced from them. While it was impossible to revive some, our staff and residents planted the saplings in our school and we also gave plants to students to plant near their houses to ensure that no plant was lost."
Residents claim that a lot of plants were chewed up by cattle. Ashok Niranjan, a resident says, "We have an open plot in front of the school. Plants were given for the same too but we did not know where to place them as we did not want to obstruct the entrance or exit which would be built later by the owners. When we contacted the municipal office they said that the vacant plots were private and they could not take a call on them. Therefore, we gave our extra plants to students.”
