Centre may dismiss Kerala government: BJP

He reminded Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that he had assumed office asserting complete allegiance to the Constitution.

Kottayam: The Union government may consider invoking Article 356 of the Constitution to dismiss the state government if the political violence continued unabated, said BJP national executive committee member V. Muralidharan. "The Centre will explore all constitutional means for suppressing violence and ensure peace," he told reporters here on Monday. "If that's not possible they must have abolished Article 356 when they shared power with the Congress party (2004-09)." He reminded Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that he had assumed office asserting complete allegiance to the Constitution.

He said there would not be any unconstitutional move on its part. He welcomed the state government's all-party meeting on Aug 6. Mr Muralidaran said that the BJP will not allow the takeover of the Cheruvally estate by giving compensation for the construction of an airport at the site. "Cheruvally estate is already government-owned land. No one has to give compensation for it,” he added.
