Abdul Nazer Mahdani can attend son's wedding: Supreme Court

The court, however, observed that the expenses should be moderate.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Bengaluru blast-accused and People’s Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nasser Madhany, facing custodial trial, to attend his son’s wedding at Thalassery in Kannur on Aug. 9. A bench of Justices S. A. Bobde and L. Nageswara Rao allowed the petition after hearing counsel Prashant Bhushan, but with the rider that Madhany should bear Karnataka police expenses for his security during the Kerala trip. The court, however, observed that the expenses should be moderate.

Madhany can remain in Kerala for a week from August 7. The petition, moved by advocate Harris Beeran, contended that the National Investigation court had rejected Madhany’s plea on July 24, though in part allowed him to visit his ailing mother for a week in August. The counsel contended that the NIA had court passed the order without “application of mind”. In July 2014, Kerala Government had given an undertaking that the trial would conclude within 4 months, but owing to a “deliberate delay” on the part of the State the trial was still on.
