Reading project in Kannur UP schools

Prizes will be given to selected writings every week.

KANNUR: The Kerala State Library Council’s project “Ente Pusthakam, Ente Kurippu, Ente Ezhuthupetti’ “will be implemented in all UP schools in Kannur by the District Library Council. It aims at encouraging reading among students and parents by providing books to students through nearby libraries on a weekly basis and also urge them to write notes on the books they read.

Prizes will be given to selected writings every week. The scheme is being implemented with the co-operation of the school library and Vidyarangam clubs in all schools. Mr P.K. Baiju, Kannur district secretary, Kerala State Library Council, said that the project will be launched in all the 400 UP schools by August 15. “The state council’s plan was to launch the scheme in 100 selected schools involving 100 libraries across Kerala. However, our district committee decided to expand it to all the UP schools in Kannur,” he said.

Kannur is one of the largest member units of the state council with over 850 libraries under its fold. “We have enough number of libraries to effectively implement the scheme in all UP schools. Over 80,000 students of UP schools in the district will benefit from it. The other units of the State Library Council are also planning to expand it to the maximum number of schools,” he added.
