Rajinikanth should endorse Clean Puducherry mission: Kiran Bedi
Chennai: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday made a passionate plea to Superstar Rajinikanth to endorse “Clean Puducherry” aimed at making the Union Territory first “open-defecation free” state in the country.
Ms Bedi and the Puducherry government led by Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy are planning to launch the “Clean Puducherry” mission on October 2 with an aim to ensure that the Union Territory is filth and garbage free by October 2, 2017.
“We want to make Puducherry open defecation-free state by bringing in a behavioural change in the people and this is where I feel Rajinikanth could play a very vital role in sending the right message to the people,” Ms Bedi told reporters at the Chennai airport. “We hope Rajinikanth’s appeal and messages will make Puducherry healthy,” she said.
Kiran Bedi, who coined the term “Prosperous Puducherry” soon after assuming office, is working closely with public, residents’ welfare associations and government officials to make the UT clean and garbage free. She had also made a proposal to form ‘Swachh Bal Senas’ to ensure the participation of children in the mission. Ms Bedi had Earlier also extended a Twitter invitation to the ‘Superstar’ to be the ambassador of her ‘dream’ initiative.
