KOCHI: It is now being alleged that Shamna Tasnim, the MBBS student of Ernakulam Government Medical College who died over a week ago, was not given the adrenaline injection at the ward to revive her when she collapsed after the Ceftriaxone injection was administered on her. “It is the most essential drug to manage such situations. In certain cases, the drug is administered through intra-cardiac (heart muscle) injection. In the case sheet, there will be nurses’ notes and doctor’s orders to prove any such negligence,” said a medical professional.
The Police will refer the case of death of Shamna Tasnim to the medical board only after receiving the post-mortem report. Kochi City Police Commissioner M.P. Dinesh told DC on Sunday that this was the formality that police followed in such cases. “We have to collect all relevant reports and documents and submit it to the medical board while referring the case to it, only then can they do their investigation,” Mr Dinesh said.
A forensic surgeon at Alappuzha Medical College had said recently that the police need not wait for the post-mortem report to constitute the medical board. Meanwhile, new Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner Mr Binoy M said that he would inspect the files related to the case tomorrow and take charge of the investigation.
