Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM politburo has decided not to intervene in the appointment of Gita Gopinath  as the financial advisor of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The politburo which met in Delhi on Sunday, however, decided to soon convene a  meeting of the politburo commission investigating the open statements of Mr V.S. Achuthanandan against the former central and state leaderships. The politburo agreed that the process of the politburo commission against the veteran leader should be completed soon.

On the appointment of  Gita  Gopinath, financial expert of  Harvard University, the politburo decided to leave the issue to the decision to the state government. Though  some of the politburo members were against the appointment, none demanded a detailed discussions on it. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan explained the situation that led to her appointment   and urged fellow politburo members not to make it controversial.

He was also supported by CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who later pointed that it was a matter  to be discussed at the state level. Mr Achuthanandan had circulated a letter against Gita’s  appointment among politburo members pointing out that she was an economist supporting neoliberal policies which was against the stand and policy of the party.
