Tamil Nadu board schools to reopen today as scheduled
Chennai: Despite soaring temperatures in many parts of the state, the school education department has announced that all schools affiliated to the state board will reopen as per schedule on Friday.
Over 50,000 schools in the state closed for summer vacation in the last week of April.
For the past few days, the state has recorded highest temperature for current year.
The state government has revised syllabus for classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 this year. School education department officials said that students from government and government-aided schools will get their books on the first day itself.
The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation delivered books for all classes except class 11 to district educational authorities.
“We have printed 20 lakh books for class one, 35 lakh books for class six and 45 lakh books for class nine. The free books already delivered to schools and many private schools also bought the sales copies,” an official said.
The class 11 books will reach the schools by the second week of June. Textbook Corporation has printed about four crore books.
The school education department also changed the uniforms for classes 9 to 12 in government schools.
As per the change, the class 9 and 10 students have to wear pink checked shirts and light grey full pants. The girls have to wear light grey Nehru Collar Jacket and salwar suit (pink and grey).
The class 11 and 12 students have to wear the navy blue checked shirt and navy blue full pants. Girls can wear navy blue Nehru collar jacket and salwar suit (navy blue checks/navy blue).
