Chennai: Cops zero in on fake currency network

The Kerala police arrested them near Thrissur a few days ago and seized Rs 5 lakh in new currencies.

Salem: Police from Kerala and Salem are holding a joint probe to unravel the network of a couple from Salem who were arrested in Kerala for allegedly printing counterfeit currencies.

The couple, Murugesan, 41, and his wife Nirmala, 38, from Ganapathy Nagar in Chinna Tirupathy, had allegedly printed fake notes in the denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 at their residence.

The Kerala police arrested them near Thrissur a few days ago and seized Rs 5 lakh in new currencies. They had gone there to circulate the fake notes, but were, however, apprehended before that.

Police are now probing to know as to where they procured the fake currency-printing machine, their network and to know the supplier of papers for printing counterfeit currency in Thrissur.
