The 54-year-old officer said he would personally monitor sensational Jisha murder case and other such cases.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fire force chief Loknath Behera who has been appointed as the new state police chief says his priority areas would be women safety, introduction of a CBI style investigating mechanism, modernisation and corruption free police force.

Behera who is a 1985 batch IPS officer brings in rich experience of working in various agencies including CBI, NIA and at various levels in state police. Speaking to mediapersons, he said he had a definite strategy in mind which would be implemented once he took office.

The 54-year-old officer said he would personally monitor sensational Jisha murder case and other such cases. “My 16 years experience in premier investigation agencies CBI and NIA will help me. I have investigated many such cases, I will try to create a CBI pattern, scientific system of investigation going step by step and no haphazard ways,” he added.

The officer, who has still five years of service left, is not thinking about any central deputation at the moment and would like to continue in Kerala. On the allegations that he had lobbied hard to get the post which led to the unceremonious shifting out of a senior officer, he said Senkumar was like his elder brother and he would consult him on important issues.

He refused to comment further saying that it was government decision and as government servant they were bound to obey. Regarding another senior officer Jacob Thomas being made vigilance director, Behera said;” he is a close friend and a professional. I don’t want to comment.” Behera said he was confident of leading the state police in an effective manner. “I have the confidence, I am always optimistic let me say that. We are putting our best foot forward,” he said.
