Tourism in Kurnool gets a shot in the arm

Plans afoot to develop Sunkesula Dam like Brindavan Garden; many other places to get facelift

ANANTAPUR: Sunkesula Dam site will soon be developed on the lines of Brindavan Gardens in Mysore as part of development of tourism in the state, said Kurnool district collector P. Koteswara Rao. In addition, the existing tourist spots including Rock Gardens, Gargeyapuram Tank and other centres will be developed with all amenities to attract tourists.

In view of long pending proposals over development of tourism circuits in the region, Koteswara Rao initiated the beatification of Sunkesula Dam premises, located closer to Kurnool city.

During a review meeting with the tourism and other department officials in Kurnool on Saturday, the collector directed the tourism department to develop the dam premises like centuries-old Brindavan Gardens. “Within six months’ time, the dam site should be beautified as a tourist spot. Development of greenery with huge plantations and also open theatre for the amusement of tourists should also be taken up,” he stated. Boating would also be arranged for tourists on the lines of Vijayawada Bhavani Island. The beautified gardens should be enjoyed during weekends, he said.

Further, a mini zoo park should also be established in Devaragattu reserve forest area. A light show will be set up on historic Kondareddy Buruju and the tourism officials were directed to beautify the fort for flag hoisting on every Independence and Republic days.

The collector stressed the need to concentrate on more facilities and development at historic Rock Gardens in Orvakal. Boating has also been proposed in Ramajala and Gajuladinne projects in Adoni area.

In addition, the collector directed the police to check illicit activities in Jagannatha Gattu area and sought the tourism department to establish Shilparamam near the temple.
