New, wider bridge over GA canal urged

As the river flows through the village, people live on either side, i.e. eastern bank and western bank.

Thanjavur: People of Kasavalanadu Thekkur near Thanjavur have urged the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led Tamil Nadu government to take steps to construct a new bridge in place of a foot bridge constructed during the British period across Grand Anicut (GA) canal which passes through their village.

As the river flows through the village, people live on either side, i.e. eastern bank and western bank.

The bridge, which according to the people, has now outlived its utility, is the only link for them to walk over, take cattle and go by
two-wheelers.

A new bridge, wider than the old one, which can now accommodate four-wheelers and two-wheelers should be constructed in its place,
they said.

Besides helping the people of the village, the bridge is useful to people living in 30 villages around like Nadur, Kollankarai,

Marunkulam, Vadakkupattu, Vengtarayankudikadu, Kovilur, and Eachankottai among others. It will also upgrade the infrastructure.
