Chennai: In two different incidents spurned lovers' assaulted young women with knife causing grievous injuries. In the first case, the victim Lavanya is a postgraduate student with Annanmalai university and was assaulted by one Naveen for not accepting his love on Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, Naveen followed the woman after she left her hostel in Annamalai Nagar and slashed her with a knife in public after exchanging heated words. The onlookers who noticed the event pelted stones at the accused and handed him over to the police. Both Naveen and Lavanya are from the same village in Vellore and Naveen had been disturbing the MSc agriculture student for the past two years.
The accused has been arrested and remanded to prison, Chidambaram police said. In the second incident, the police arrested one Shabheer of Mettukulamin Vellore for assaulting his friend Subhidra Devi.
The victim was known to the accused for few months and they were friends. Shabheer, during a late evening meeting with Subhidra, insisted that she covert to Islam and marry him, but the woman said she would only marry a person of her parents' choice, upon which Shahbeer expressed anger and the duo exchanged words.
Shabheer then stabbed his friend with a small knife and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. In both the cases, the victims have sustained grievous injuries but are of out of danger with police recording attempt to murder cases against the arrested.
