Second dredger lowered at Neyyar to pump water
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an effort to intensify the pumping of water from Neyyar dam to Aruvikkara, a second dredger was lowered to the dam on Sunday.
Special dredger pipes were to be connected to 600 mm diameter pipes on the mainland. “Its outlet pipe was to arrive from Colachel in Tamil Nadu by Monday. By evening, pumping will begin from new dredger that can pump upto 24 MLD,” officials a Kerala Water Authority (KWA) said. Special directions were issued by the state government to make sure that none of the goods are delayed at checkposts. 180 New pumps from Gujarat were also on the way.
“Electrical inspectorate will inspect power connection for all pumpsets and KSEB will energise the lines by Monday. Two 100 HP pumps were placed on platforms and were being connected to 700 and 800 mm pipe using mild steel fabrication at the site,” officials said. There won’t be any water rationing until Tuesday night as 24x7 pumping from Aruvikkara reservoir has been extended by the day. Meanwhile, as per officials, five panchayats were also benefitted by the transfer of water to Aruvikkara. “Water is pumped into Kumbilmoodu canal which meets with Ayanimoodu kadavu ghat on Karamana River. Enroute water passes through once dried up canals of five panchayat. The water levels in the wells surrounding canal has raised considerably and they are out of drought situation,” officials said.
