Met: Heatwave to persist in parts of Kerala

IMD has forecast fairly widespread rainfall from May 3; earlier it had predicted widespread rain from May 1.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department said that heat wave conditions would continue to lash certain North and Northeastern parts of the State on Sunday, too. For the fourth consecutive day, Palakkad district has clocked a maximum temperature of over 41 degree Celsius. Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kannur, too, suffer from intense heat conditions. IMD has forecast fairly widespread rainfall from May 3; earlier it had predicted widespread rain from May 1.

Rain occurred at one or two places on Saturday. The chief amounts of rainfall are: Konni 2 cm, Muvattupuzha and Thiruvananthapuram 1cm. Summer showers across the state continue to be deficient by nearly 60 percent. Kasargod, Kannur, Malappuram and Palakkad are the worst affected.

There has been no perceptible change in maximum temperature over the state during the past 24 hours. However it was “markedly above normal” in Palakkad district, “appreciably above normal” in Kannur and Kozhikode districts, “above normal” in Malappuram, Kottayam and Kollam districts, and “normal” in the remaining districts.
