Thiruvananthapuram: Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, has emerged as the winner at the 39th Kerala University Youth Festival on Friday. The defending champions secured 194 points when results of all the events were declared. The Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Nalanchira, is in the second position with 92 points. The University Campus, Karyavattom, is in the third position with 77 point. K S Arjun of Mar Baselios Engineering college emerged Kalaprathiba and Aparna S Anil of the Kerala University Campus, Kariavattom, the Kalathilakam.
Points of the leading colleges are as follows: Sree Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram-75, Govt.College for Women,Thiruvananthapuram-66, University College,Thiruvananthapuram-49, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram-39, Fathima Matha National College, Kollam-22, Milad E-Sherif Memorial College,Alappuzha-22 and Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy, -21. State award-winning actor Vinayakan was the chief guest at the valedictory function which was inaugurated by Cooperative Minister Kadakampally Surendran.
Lack of planning and coordination, and minor scuffles turned the youth festival into a lowkey affair as all the top officials of the university including vice chancellor P K Radhakrishnan kept away from the festival venue. Kerala Union members alleged that the tepid attitude of university authorities and their failure to release funds on time was the reason for this. Kerala University union office bearers even gheraoed university pro-vice chancellor N Veeramanikantan on Thursday alleging that funds were not allotted for the ongoing Kerala University youth festival. However, university authorities said that Rs. 22.5 lakh of the Rs. 30 lakh earmarked for the youth festival was released and the remaining funds would be released as per norms.
