Kochi: Missing woman denies charges of eloping with priest
Kochi: A 35-year old woman, against whom her father had lodged a man missing complaint with Narackkal police two days back, presented herself before the cops on Friday and denied charges that she had eloped. According to police, the complaint filed on Wednesday stated that the woman, a teacher, failed to return home from the school. The complaint alleged a possible relationship between the woman and a Catholic priest. However, the woman denied the allegations.
“The married woman was working at an institute owned by the church. We were aware about her relationship with a priest and had warned her against it. She was wearing a pink saree when she went missing,” the complaint stated. “She presented herself at the police station soon after returning home on coming learning of the complaint. The woman is not a minor and she can go wherever she wants. The woman was produced in court and was sent home as per her wish,” said a senior police officer with Narackal police.
The woman told cops she was travelling, looking for a suitable job. She said she had reached Kochi after taking a flight from Hyderabad. An FIR under section 57 of the KP Act was lodged at the police station. The case was closed after the “missing person” presented before the magistrate and gave a statement about her leaving home on her free will, police said.
