Karnataka PU question paper leak: CID probe likely

The unscrupulous elements behind the two deliberate leaks have left no paper trail for the investigators.

Bengaluru: The CID probe into the PU second year Chemistry question paper leak, will in all likelihood hit a dead-end with officials telling Deccan Chronicle that the unscrupulous elements behind the two deliberate leaks have left no
paper trail for the investigators.

Sources from the department claimed, the entire turn of events from the first question paper leak on March 21 and the subsequent leak on the re-exam on March 31 was aimed at the removal/transfer of the recently inducted PU Board director Pallavi Akurathi. “We believe that the third Chemistry re-exam will go on smoothly as the mission to remove or transfer the PU director would have been accomplished by then.”

CID DIG Sonia Narang, who is heading the probe, told Deccan Chronicle, that it was in fact the CID officers who informed the PU Board about the leak of
Chemistry paper in the early hours of Thursday. "Our officers, who are probing the case, were in constant touch with many students. Around 3 am in
the morning, there was credible information that the paper was leaked and the PU Board officials were alerted immediately."

Following the development, the CID officials held a meeting with PU Board officials and discussed the loopholes in the system that is leading to the
leakage of question papers. "We have sought some information from them and have suggested some measures," she added. However, Ms. Narang refused to divulge information about the place where the question paper was leaked first. Sources said that the CID received information through WhatsApp and the sender had sent the image of questions handwritten.

The CID has formed various teams to investigate the case and the teams have visited several places as part of the probe. Meanwhile, city police commissioner N. S. Megharikh has ordered to shut all the photocopy shops in a radius of 200 meters of SSLC and PUC exam centres on the days of examination.
