81 cross-bunds to save Rabi crop in Konaseema

Kakinada: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema collector Himanshu Shukla announced that 81 cross-bunds have been set up over various drains and canals in the district to save the Rabi crop.

The suggestion for cross-bunds came from irrigation officials, as there is acute shortage of water for the second paddy crop in the district. Accordingly, the collector sanctioned funds, so that water is available to various fields.

Kunavaram main drain, which connects Rangaraju Kodu Medium Drain and Old Samanasa Drain, flows through Kunavaram, S. Yanam, Raghavulupeta and N. Kothapalli villages before merging into the Bay of Bengal. Himanshu Shukla pointed out that construction of a cross-drain on the main drain got completed on Tuesday at a cost of ₹7.40 lakh. The bund will also prevent salt waters from entering the fields during the ebb and tide.

The cross-bund will protect 6,000 acres of paddy fields in Uppalaguptam and Katrenikona mandals.
