TNAU student wins national award for study on agriculture

The focus us mainly in identifying the constraints faced by paddy farmers, says Sivaraj.

Coimbatore: His outstanding contribution for undertaking students’ welfare activities and empowering the youth in agriculture in the southern zone of Tamil Nadu has brought him the national level student of the year award 2016.

P. Sivaraj, 26, scholar, department of agricultural extension and rural sociology (AE&RS), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore and also the state president, All India Agricultural Students Association (AIASA), Tamil Nadu, aims to serve the farming community with his research and studies.

His study, ‘impact of climate change on livelihood and food security among small and marginal farmers - an analysis’ aims to assess the impact of climate change among small and marginal farmers and their extent of awareness. "An attempt has been made to study the socio-economic, livelihood and food security impacts among paddy farmers due to climate change and to clarify the coping strategies followed to combat climate change.

The focus us mainly in identifying the constraints faced by paddy farmers and the strategies adopted farmers to overcome the constraints and the ill effects of climate change," said Sivaraj.

He received the award on February 20, 2017 from C.R. Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Dr Gurbachan Singh, chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) during the 2nd National Youth Convention of Agricultural Innovation in Sustainable Food Systems for Improving Rural livelihood: The Youth Perspective.
