Chennai: 8,000 flying squads to monitor 9 lakh plus-2 students
Chennai: Around 9 lakh students are scheduled to take plus-2 board exams from Thursday in state board this year. According to school education officials, totally 8,98,763 students from 6,737 schools are going to take the board exams this year.
Of these 4,80,810 are girls and 4,17,952 are boys. One transgender is also writing the board exam. There are 2,427 exam centres set up by the directorate of government examinations this year.
“These centres will not have any power cuts during the exam hours as the electricity officials were instructed to give uninterrupted power supply to exam centres as per the request from the school education department,” officials said.
There are 88 jail inmates also taking the class 12 exam this year.
Nearly 8,000 strong flying squads are formed to prevent any malpractices in the exam. “For Erode and Namakkal districts we have deployed additional flying squads to discourage the schools from indulging in any type of malpractices,” officials said.
“All the directors and joint directors of the school education department will supervise the examination related works at their allotted districts individually. More than 30,000 teachers will be involved in examination work,” said S. Kannappan, director, school education.
All the examination centres and custodian points have police protection.
Due to the question paper leak on WhatsApp in 2015, the DGE officials have laid down strict rules for invigilation staff banning them from carrying cell phones inside the exam halls.
Students also are instructed not to carry cell phones to the examination centres.
The month long exam will end on March 31.
