Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan on Tuesday asked revenue secretary P.H. Kurian to probe the allegation that there was misuse of government land by the Law Academy Law College. Mr Chandrasekharan told reporters that the revenue secretary was asked to submit a report of the probe soon. The order was based on a letter submitted by the Administrative Reforms Commission chief V.S. Achuthanandan seeking a probe on the land assigned to the college. Former BJP state president V. Muraleedharan also raised a similar demand.
The revenue secretary has been asked to probe into three allegations. The first charge being alleged changes in the constitution of the trust. The second on whether the land at Peroorkada is used for any other purpose other than purposes of the academy society. The third allegation being if it is legal to construct flats on the land at Punnen Road near Secretariat after entering into an agreement with a private realtor. Mr Achuthanandan, in the letter to the revenue minister, asked the revenue department to reclaim the excess land in possession of the Law Academy.
It was submitted on Monday after Mr Chandrasekharan pointed out that he did not receive any complaints regarding the land and he will order a probe if he got one. Apart from the land owned by the academy at Peroorkada, Mr Achuthanandan also demanded a probe into the utilisation of 34.5 cent of plot at Punnen Road near the Secretariat following allegations that 17.5 cent was handed over to Heather Constructions, a real estate company for constructing a flat.
