Kerala Law Academy agitation: High Court refuses police action on protesters
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday refused to direct the police to remove the protesters on the Kerala Law Academy premises on a plea filed by Ms Lakshmi Nair, principal. The court, however, asked the police to take appropriate action to ensure that students, teachers and management representatives can enter and exit the college. The court issued the order after recording the submissions of the students union that they will not cause any obstruction. The petitioner submitted that sheds were constructed by the agitators on either side of the road leading to the main gate of the college from Peroorkada junction.
There are around seven sheds, including the one where BJP leader V. Muraleedharan is fasting. The petitioner argued that she had filed a complaint before the state police chief to remove the sheds. However, no action was taken. When the academy was reopened on January 27, none of the students could enter the college. The court had earlier ordered police protection for the academy. The students union submitted that they were conducting the agitation peacefully. The KSU and MSF submitted that the Peroorkada SI who is in charge of law and order in the area is a former student of the college and that he was causing all difficulties.
