Kannur: The six BJP workers, who were taken into custody in connection with a minor bomb blast at Nangarath Peedika, near Kodiyeri, where CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was speaking recently, were released on Monday. Thalassery CI Pradeepan Kannipoyil, investigation officer, told DC that there was no evidence to prove that the six men were connected with the attack. “They were taken into custody on the complaints of the CPM leaders. Though the men were present in the area on the day of the attack, their involvement could not be proved,” he said.

One person was injured in the blast and was admitted to the cooperative hospital, Thalassery. However, the BJP leaders had alleged that DYFI Kodiyeri village joint secretary Sarath Babu was not injured in the incident. According to the police, a country-made bomb was thrown near the venue which exploded 150 metres away. However, Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan continued the speech asking the crowd not to panic.
