Hyderabad: The city-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), along with Geological Survey of India (GSI), will soon take up exploration for minerals along a 700-km transect passing through Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in what NGRI has called an “ambitious endeavour to unravel the intricate crustal architecture and unlock the region’s latent mineral potential.”
The project, valued at Rs.99.73 crore, will conduct ‘Deep Seismic Reflection Survey and Magnetotelluric Survey’, the NGRI said in a news release on Monday and that the surveys were expected to reveal hidden geological mysteries and untapped mineral resources in the two states.
After signing of an MoU between the two institutions, Janardan Prasad, director general, GSI emphasised the project's paramount importance in revolutionising the understanding of the region's geological makeup while Dr Prakash Kumar, the director of NGRI, expressed optimism about the survey’s far-reaching implications for mineral resource mapping and potential extraction avenues, according to the release.
