Hyderabad: Construction of a graveyard at the full tank levels (FTLs) of the Yerrakunta Lake near Shameerpet flouts the court order, alleges Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), a Hyderabad-based NGO. Lubna Sarwath, co-convener of SOUL, demanded strict action against the officials for violating the court directions.
Lubna said that the High Court on November 24 heard a plea to stop the illegal construction of a funeral pyre inside Yeerakunta Lake and asked the government to issue notices to revenue and irrigation departments, Medchal MRO and district collector , HMDA and the local sarpanch.
She said the authorities did not stop the illegal construction. However, the enforcement wing of the HMDA was forced to act and stopped the construction of the funeral pyre. But the structure is not razed down.
She also demanded immediate demolition of the illegal structure inside the Yerrakunta Lake. She sought action against the officials for defying the HC order.
