BSNL rolls out Rs 144 plan, free voice, video calls

BSNL has also been taking initiatives to tackle cashless economy as the network has embraced interesting plans.

Chennai: Telecom major BSNL unveiled a comprehensive Rs 144 plan for broadband customers on Saturday that benefits them with free voice and video calls for a month.

Presenting the plan to two of its customers, BSNL CMD Anupam Srivatsav said, “The closed plan, which can be procured by all BSNL broadband customers charges 3 paise per 10kb of data and 80 paise for video and voice calls for all the networks (after a month).”

Anupam Srivatsav congratulated the staff of BSNL for handling the natural calamities like cyclone Vardah and helping consumers in restoring connections. He said, “While private mobile networks took time to restore the connections, BSNL was functional due to the underground cable network.”

BSNL has also been taking initiatives to tackle cashless economy as the network has embraced interesting plans - free USSD transactions till 31 January and 0.75 percent discount on digital transactions from BSNL. Terming the entry of Reliance Jio competitive, Anupam Srivatsav said: “Reliance Jio's entry has not affected us as we had rolled out unlimited mobile plans already (like unlimited Rs 1099).”

“We were operational negative during 2013-14. But, we have been considerably improving as we noted the operational profit of 3855 crore in 2015-16, against 672 crore in 2014-15,” the CMD announced.

When asked about embracing the 4G plan in Internet accessibility, he said, “We have strategically decided to meet the 4G service through wifi hot spots. BSNL will set up 40,000 more wi-fi hotspots by March 2018.”

In Tamil Nadu circle, around 15,000 landline connections are provided through BSNL, thus arresting the depletion of landlines in the country, Anupam Srivatsav said.
