IIT Kharagpur Announces 'Campus Mothers' Program: Who Are They?
This move comes in light of three student suicides reported at the institute this year alone.

IIT Kharagpur
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is set to launch a unique initiative called "Campus Mothers" to offer emotional support and mentorship to students in distress.
The program, announced by the institute's new director Suman Chakraborty, will train women on campus—both faculty and non-faculty—to offer this crucial support.
This move comes in light of three student suicides reported at the institute this year alone.
The "Campus Mothers" program will work alongside a student engagement initiative, that uses AI-based tools to monitor student well-being and provide a platform for expressing their concerns.
Chakraborty said these volunteers could invite distressed students for tea or dinner, creating an informal setting for discussions.
He stressed that while technology is helpful, it can't replace the personal touch offered by human interaction.
