Heavy Rains To Continue Over Coastal AP, Rayalaseema

As per the IMD report, conditions are favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon in more parts of Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days

VISAKHAPATNAM: Heavy rains and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning will continue at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema till May 22, a report of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Sunday.

Gusty winds with speeds of 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated places over Rayalaseema. Their speeds will be 40–kmph over north and south coastal AP and Yanam.

These rains are due to persistence of a trough due to cyclonic circulation over west Vidarbha to Rayalaseema across north interior Karnataka at 1.5 km above mean sea level.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Gorantla (Sri Sathya Sai district) received the highest rainfall of 9.7 cm, followed by Uravakonda (Anantapur) 8.9 cm, Kurnool town 7.6 cm, Amadagur (Sri Sathya Sai) 7.4cm, Holagunda (Kurnool) 6.4 cm, Brahmasamudram (Anantapur) 5.6 cm, Markapur (Prakasam) 4.7 cm, Eluru 3.8 cm and Racherla (Prakasam district) 3.7 cm.
