Heavy Rains Continue To Batter Kerala; Red Alert In 8 Districts

Isolated to heavy rainfall is expected in all 14 districts on Saturday. The rainfall is likely to abate in most districts after Saturday - Indian Meteorological Department ( IMD)

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala continued to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) putting eight districts on red alert.

The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall (above 29 cm in 24 hours) for Idukki, Kannur, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kasargod. The remaining six districts have been put on orange alert.

Isolated to heavy rainfall is expected in all 14 districts on Saturday. The rainfall is likely to abate in most districts after Saturday.

District collectors have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kottayam and Kollam, given the heavy rainfall. Anganwadis, educational institutions conducting vacation classes, tuition centres and other camps, including summer camps, will remain closed.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has sounded an orange alert and flood risk warning for Achankovil, Pamba and Manimala rivers in Pathanamthitta district, Mogral, Neeleswaram and Uppala rivers in Kasargod district.
