Govt Proposes To Extend PUCC Validity for BS-VI Vehicles Up To 3 Years
The government has proposed extending the validity of the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) for up to six-year-old BS-VI-compliant private vehicles to three years.
New Delhi: The government has proposed extending the validity of the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) for up to six-year-old BS-VI-compliant private vehicles to three years, instead of the current one year, to ease the burden on owners. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), in a draft notification, has said that BS-VI vehicles aged between 6 and 10 years will be required to renew their PUCC certificate, and those above 10 years will be required to renew it every 6 years.
For Personal Vehicles:
Currently, for BS-1, 2, 3, and 4 vehicles, a PUC Certificate must be obtained once every 6 months, and for BS-6 vehicles, once a year.
Going forward: BS-1, 2, 3 vehicles: PUC Certificate will have to be obtained once every 3 months.
BS-4 vehicles: PUC Certificate will continue to be required once every 6 months, as it is now.
BS-6 vehicles: Currently, the rule is once a year. Going forward, for a newly purchased vehicle, it will be once every 3 years, for a total of 2 times in the first 6 years. After that, from 6 to 10 years, it will be once a year. After 10 years, it will be once every 6 months.
For Transport/Commercial Vehicles:
Currently, for goods and passenger transport vehicles like lorries and buses, the PUC Certificate applies only for the first 2 years for new vehicles. After that, it must be obtained every year.
As per the Revised Rules:
New vehicles: A PUC Certificate will be required only once every 2 years, up to 6 years.
From 6 to 10 years: It will be required once a year.
Vehicles older than 10 years: The certificate must be obtained once every 6 months.
