Stop Pakistan-Origin Content Immediately: Centre Tells OTT, Streaming Platforms

"Several terrorist attacks in India have been established to have cross-border linkages with Pakistan-based state and non-state actors,” it said.

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday advised Over-The-Top (OTT) and media streaming platforms and intermediaries to immediately discontinue all Pakistan-origin media content, including web series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming.

An advisory by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting comes a day after Indian armed forces carried out targeted strikes at terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

“In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect,” the advisory said.

Citing the Information Technology Rules, 2021, the advisory said, “It provides that intermediaries shall make reasonable efforts by itself, and to cause the users of its computer resource to not host, display, upload, modify, publish, transmit, store, update or share any information that inter-alia "threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order."

"Several terrorist attacks in India have been established to have cross-border linkages with Pakistan-based state and non-state actors,” it said.

Earlier this month, the Youtube channel of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif alongwith 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including some leading channels like Dawn News, Samaa TV, Ary News, and Geo News was blocked for disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content, and false and misleading narratives and misinformation against India, its Army and security agencies after the Pahalgam terror attack.
