Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) bulldozed 15 unauthorised constructions built on government land, late at night on Friday. The GHMC took the assistance of officials of the revenue department and police to execute the demolitions.
Those who had raised the structures raised objections to the demolition and mild tension prevailed in that area when the structures were being bulldozed.
Police accompanying the GHMC team brought the situation under control within a short span of time and the demolition continued. Four heavy machines were used to pull down the structures.
“Fifteen one BHK houses were built illegally by encroaching on government land in Survey No.199/1 of Kapra,” said a GHMC official. The land was allocated to build a stadium. Following the demolition drive, a fence will be built around the land parcel to protect it.
“We took assistance from the Jawaharnagar police to maintain the law and order while demolishing the structure,” said another GHMC official from the town planning wing. He also said that all the rules have been followed and photographs were taken during the course of demolition.
