New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the free trade agreements (FTAs) signed by India with various countries were opening new career opportunities for the youth.
Addressing a Rozgar Mela virtually, Modi said the talent and skills of India’s youth had earned global trust and that the world had high expectations of the country’s innovators, entrepreneurs and young workforce.
“India has signed 40 free trade agreements. These FTAs are opening new doors of opportunity for our youth. Such agreements create new partnerships for entrepreneurs, provide access to new markets and generate new career opportunities for young people,” he said.
At the event, Modi virtually distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates joining various government departments and organisations.
Referring to the recently concluded BRICS Summit, the Prime Minister said India was working to ensure that cooperation among member countries was not confined to governments.
“Our entrepreneurs, farmers, women and youth should all become active partners in this cooperation,” he said.
Highlighting India’s startup ecosystem, Modi said it reflected the strength of the country’s youth and was no longer confined to major cities.
“India is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. Its startup story is no longer restricted to big cities. Nearly half of the recognised startups are in Tier-II and Tier-III cities,” he said.
Modi said India was working towards the major goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and that young people had a crucial role in achieving it.
“While serving in the government, you must ensure that every decision strengthens the campaign for a developed and self-reliant India. As young people, you have a special responsibility, particularly towards other youngsters,” he told the recruits.
The Prime Minister said Nagrik Devo Bhava — citizens are like gods — should be the guiding principle of public service.
As many as 45 Rozgar Melas were organised across the country. The recruits will join several Union government ministries and departments, including revenue, railways, home affairs, health and family welfare, financial services and defence, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
An official statement said the Rozgar Mela reflected the government’s continued focus on creating employment opportunities for the youth and increasing their participation in the country’s development.
With the 20th Rozgar Mela, 12.75 lakh young people have received appointment letters to various government departments and organisations, it added.
