Berhampore: A former Trinamul Congress gram panchayat head's husband was arrested by the police in Murshidabad of West Bengal for possessing a carbine and ammunition. The accused, Shah Jamal Sheikh, was caught from his house during a raid by the cops on Sunday night following a tip-off. The firearm, an empty magazine and a cartridge were also recovered from there. Jamal’s wife was the Pradhan of TMC-ruled Hariharpara gram panchayat. Hariharpara TMC vice president Sadikul Islam said that Jamal was in the ruling party when his wife was at the helm of the gram panchayat. “He is no longer in our party. We never tolerate such antisocials. The police should punish him.” On Monday, the accused was remanded by the court in police custody for 10 days police custody.
