Five More Arrested in ISI-Linked Terror Module Case

Delhi Police say the accused were plotting attacks on police personnel and spreading propaganda for an alleged terror outfit linked to Pakistan-based handlers.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested five men allegedly linked to Pakistan-based handler Shahzad Bhatti for plotting attacks on police personnel and promoting Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan, police said.

The arrested were identified as Sohail, 26, of Faridabad, Sonu Meena, 30, of Ghitorni, Sachin Kumar Meena, 20, of Dausa in Rajasthan, Mohammad Kaif, 21, of Nuh, and Mohammad Rihan, 20, of Meerut. The case is registered against eight accused, including three arrested earlier.
DCP (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi said the latest arrests were part of the probe into a terror module allegedly operated by Bhatti through Pakistan-based associates Hassan Gujjar, Rana Hunain, Abid Jutt and Mohsin. Three suspected members of the network had earlier been arrested under Operation Gang Bust 2.0.
Police said the accused were assigned roles such as targeting police personnel, conducting reconnaissance of security establishments, arranging weapons and promoting TTH through propaganda in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states.
During the operation, police recovered five firearms, 10 live cartridges, posters and digital material, including videos allegedly threatening police personnel and showing reconnaissance of security establishments.
Investigators said Sohail was allegedly asked by Bhatti to paint TTH graffiti in Delhi and Faridabad, record videos and share them through encrypted messaging applications. He was allegedly paid Rs 5,000 for the task.
Police said three pistols and ammunition were recovered from Sonu Meena, who allegedly arranged weapons and transferred Rs 5,000 to Sohail. Sachin Kumar Meena was allegedly found with two pistols and live rounds.
Kaif was allegedly in touch with Rana Hunain and Abid Jutt, who asked him to conduct reconnaissance of police stations, recruit youths and facilitate attacks on police personnel. Rihan was allegedly in direct contact with Abid Jutt and Mohsin, pasted posters carrying Jutt’s image in Meerut and was offered Rs 3 lakh to open fire on police personnel.
Police said the module was linked to TTH, which recently claimed responsibility for the killing of an assistant sub-inspector in Majitha, Amritsar.
The three accused arrested earlier were identified as Soyab of Amroha, Anmol Rai alias Annu of Madhya Pradesh and Ravi Kashyap of Amroha. Police said they were also allegedly involved in plans to target police personnel and had recorded threatening videos at the behest of their handlers.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace its funding and operational links.
