Engine Of Intercity Express Reportedly Detaches From Coaches Near Bolangir

The incident occurred near the Sudapada railway level crossing, according to preliminary information: Reports

BHUBANESWAR: In an unusual railway incident, the locomotive of the Puranakatak–Bhubaneswar Intercity Express reportedly became detached from its passenger coaches shortly after the train left Bolangir on Sunday afternoon, leaving passengers startled.

The incident occurred near the Sudapada railway level crossing, according to preliminary information. The train had reportedly departed from Bolangir when the locomotive separated from the coaches and continued moving ahead, while the passenger coaches were left behind on the track.

The unusual occurrence triggered panic among passengers, who remained inside the coaches as railway personnel assessed the situation. However, no injuries or casualties were reported and all passengers were stated to be safe.

The locomotive reportedly remained separated from the coaches for nearly 30 minutes before returning to the spot. It was subsequently coupled with the coaches, following which the train resumed its journey towards Bhubaneswar.

The exact cause of the locomotive's detachment was not immediately known. Railway authorities are expected to ascertain whether the incident was caused by a technical failure, a coupling-related problem or another mechanical issue.

A detailed inquiry is likely to establish the circumstances leading to the separation and determine whether any lapses contributed to the incident.
