Pickup Carrying UP Workers Collides With Dumper Truck In Bhind

Bhopal: At least eight farmworkers, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were on Tuesday killed and 23 others injured when a pickup vehicle in which they were travelling had a head-on-collision with a dumper truck coming from opposite side in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, police said.

The tragedy happened on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway near Chimki village under Gohad Chauraha police station in Bhind district at around one in the morning.

The driver of the pickup vehicle hit the speeding truck coming from the opposite side while trying to avoid the cattle roaming on the road, leading to the accident, Gohad Chauraha police station in-charge Ramnaresh Yadav said.

The pickup vehicle mangled under the impact of the accident, and the dead and the injured had to be removed from it by the local people and the police.

The labourers were returning to their villages under Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh in the ill-fated vehicle after completing transplantation of paddy in Gwalior.

The deceased were identified as Updesh, Amar Singh, Sukhdev, Rajneesh, Guddu, Ajit, and Subhash.

The other slain worker was yet to be identified.

The injured were admitted to the local hospital.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to the families of the deceased.
