Students Better Score in Class 10 CBSE 2nd Exam

Almost 60 per cent of students who had taken CBSE’s first-ever Class 10 Second Board Examination improved their marks, according to the results released late on Saturday. The exam gave students another chance to improve scores or clear compartment papers.

Nationally, 6,63,777 students appeared for the exam. Among improvement candidates, 59.95 per cent raised their scores, while 52.40 per cent of compartment candidates passed.

Telangana educator Dr Sunil Dubey said the result was positive among 84 students associated with his institution. “More than 50 improved their scores, while around 30 received lower scores as well. Since the better performance from the two examinations will be retained, students do not lose out. Overall, the result has been better,” said Dubey, founder and board member of Devnagri Uthan Foundation.

Dr Dubey estimated that 70 per cent had benefited and said the second examination could help children whose first attempt was affected by illness, fear or another difficulty. “It may add stress for a few students who already had good scores but still chose to improve them due to parental pressure, but most students have benefited. Getting another chance in the same year is good news.”

Among students, Vaishali T, who had appeared for the second exam, said her overall score rose from 90 per cent to 94 per cent, while her best-of-five percentage increased to 95 per cent. Ishani of Kendriya Vidyalaya, who only appeared for Maths, said she improved from 93 per cent to 95 per cent.

Several other students from KV and Pallavi Model School also appeared for the maths exam, noting that the second paper was easier, which helped improve their scores by a huge margin as they had expected.

The reaction to the results of the first Second Board examination had been overwhelmingly positive. This comes after the board has faced several allegations of irregularities in the last couple of months over its Class 12 board exam, language policies and more.
