ED Searches on Cong MP, MLAs Conspiracy to Divide Party in Karnataka: Kharge

Congress chief alleges ruling party’s bid to create rift as ED probes money laundering linked to Valmiki scam.

Ballari: Officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday carried out simultaneous searches at multiple locations in Ballari, including the residences and offices of prominent elected representatives, in connection with a suspected money laundering case.

Sources said the searches were conducted at properties linked to Bellary MP E Tukaram, Bellary City MLA Bharath Reddy, Kampli MLA GN Ganesh, and MLA and former minister B. Nagendra, along with his close associate.

Though the ED has not yet issued an official statement on the operation, the raids are believed to be part of a probe into alleged misappropriation of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. It is alleged that funds from the Corporation were illegally diverted to fake accounts and subsequently laundered.

Investigating officials suspect that a portion of the misappropriated money may have been used during the recent elections in Bellary constituency.
