ED Conducts Nationwide Raids in Medical College Bribery Case

Searches linked to CBI FIR alleging bribes paid to National Medical Commission officials for confidential inspection data.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out searches at 15 locations across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in connection with an alleged bribery case involving medical college approvals.
The searches are based on a June 30, 2025 FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which alleges that bribes were paid to government functionaries, including officials of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
According to the FIR, confidential information related to medical college inspections was allegedly leaked to middlemen and key managerial personnel associated with private medical colleges. Investigators believe this allowed manipulation of evaluation parameters and helped institutions secure approval to run academic programmes despite not meeting mandatory requirements.
ED sources say the premises under search include seven medical colleges across multiple states, as well as properties linked to private individuals named as accused in the CBI case.
Further details on seizures and arrests are awaited.
