Drone Hits Power Line, Explodes Near India-Pakistan Border in Gujarat
Explosion near Indo-Pak border raises security concerns as authorities investigate drone origins.

An explosion was reported early on Thursday morning near the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat’s Khavda region after an unidentified drone reportedly collided with a high-tension power transmission line, triggering concern in the border security establishment.
According to local authorities and initial reports from security personnel, the incident occurred around 5:30 am in a remote stretch of the Khavda desert, a sensitive area due to its proximity to the international border. The drone is believed to have been flying at low altitude when it hit the live wire, leading to a loud explosion that was heard several kilometers away.
No casualties or injuries have been reported. However, power supply in the immediate vicinity was briefly disrupted due to the impact on the transmission infrastructure. Officials from the Gujarat Electricity Board were dispatched to the site to assess and repair the damage.
A joint investigation has been launched by the Border Security Force (BSF), local police, and central intelligence agencies to identify the origin of the drone and whether the incident was accidental or involved cross-border infiltration. Forensic teams are scanning the wreckage of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), while airspace surveillance data is also being reviewed.
“The incident is being taken very seriously. Given the heightened security scenario along the western front, we are exploring all possibilities,” a senior police official said.
The Khavda region lies near the Rann of Kutch, where BSF regularly monitors for cross-border activity. In recent months, there has been increased vigilance along India’s western borders following Operation Sindoor and the spike in ceasefire violations along the Line of Control.
