Drone-Dropped Narcotics Consignment Recovered Along Jammu Border
According to official sources, the recovery was made in the Bahadurpur Panchayat area of the Bishnah sector after a local farmer noticed a suspicious packet while tilling his field.

Srinagar: Security forces on Wednesday recovered a suspected drone-dropped consignment of narcotics from the border belt of Jammu district, highlighting once again the persistent challenge of cross-border smuggling.
According to official sources, the recovery was made in the Bahadurpur Panchayat area of the Bishnah sector after a local farmer noticed a suspicious packet while tilling his field.
Acting swiftly on the information, teams of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police rushed to the spot and secured the area to prevent any tampering or movement of the suspected contraband.
The recovery comes in the wake of heightened surveillance in the region, following specific intelligence inputs about possible drone-based smuggling attempts from across the International Border (IB) with Pakistan. Officials stated that security agencies had been maintaining round-the-clock vigilance in vulnerable stretches of the Bishnah sector over the past week. This proactive monitoring enabled the timely interception of the consignment before it could reach its intended recipients, thereby thwarting a potential narcotics distribution network, they claimed.
Preliminary reports indicate that the seized packet contained a substantial quantity of suspected heroin, estimated to weigh between 1.5 and 2 kilograms. The material was immediately taken into custody, and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was summoned to conduct a detailed scientific examination and collect evidentiary samples. Authorities emphasised that the final confirmation regarding the nature and purity of the substance will be determined after forensic analysis.
Officials further described the seizure as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to curb "narco-terrorism and cross-border smuggling activities". A comprehensive investigation has been launched to trace both forward and backward linkages associated with the consignment, officials said adding that investigators are focusing on identifying local contacts who were meant to receive the narcotics, as well as uncovering the network operating from across the border that facilitated the drone drop.
The incident underscores the evolving tactics employed by smuggling syndicates, particularly the use of drones to bypass traditional border security measures, a police official said. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and strengthening countermeasures to address this emerging threat.
