Digi Yatra International Trials Begin At 7 Airports

The trials are being conducted at Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar airports.

New Delhi: The Digi Yatra system has begun trials for international passengers at seven airports, including Hyderabad, the civil aviation ministry said on Sunday.

The trials, scheduled from November to December 2026, will allow Indian nationals holding e-passports to use Digi Yatra at designated airport touchpoints while travelling on select international flights operated by Air India and IndiGo.

The trials are being conducted at Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar airports.

Eligible passengers can use the facility at terminal entry points, security hold areas and boarding gates wherever the necessary infrastructure is available.

To access the facility, passengers must create an e-passport-based verifiable credential through the Digi Yatra mobile app.

This involves scanning the machine-readable zone of the e-passport, reading its embedded chip using a smartphone's near-field communication feature, capturing a selfie and verifying the details.

The credential will be stored in the Digi Yatra wallet on the passenger's device.

The ministry clarified that Digi Yatra would not replace existing travel procedures.

Passengers must continue to carry their travel documents and complete mandatory airline checks and immigration formalities.

Feedback from the trials will help plan a wider rollout in 2027.

Digi Yatra has more than 2.65 crore users and has facilitated over 11 crore journeys across 39 domestic airports.

Another 25 airports are expected to be covered by 2027.
