Didi: Will Restore Valid Voters' Names, Earlier Axed In SIR

Hours after the release of the appellate tribunals’ first supplementary list of the voters in the morning, Ms Banerjee told a poll campaign rally at Amdanga in North 24 Parganas, “Those who will cast your votes tomorrow, please check the supplementary list.

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday assured the “genuine voters”, whose names have been deleted in the Election Commission's special intensive revision in West Bengal, of restoring them in the electoral roll. She however questioned the deployment of an "unprecedented" size of central forces by the EC in the Assembly polls.

Hours after the release of the appellate tribunals’ first supplementary list of the voters in the morning, Ms Banerjee told a poll campaign rally at Amdanga in North 24 Parganas, “Those who will cast your votes tomorrow, please check the supplementary list. You can collect it from the returning officers also. Those who are genuine voters but have been dropped this time, I will ensure that their names are restored also.”

Expressing her surprise at the deployment of 2,407 companies of central forces in the first phase of the polls, the Trinamul Congress supremo wondered, “Election is a festival of democracy. It is not for taking anyone's life. Lodge FIRs if you face any atrocities. More than two lakh central forces personnel have been posted here. This is unprecedented. Are they trying to intimidate me by deploying so many forces?”

She also challenged the BJP, saying, “I want to see who has bigger power: the armoured vehicles or the people!” The CM later sought the Centre to explain why such huge troops and armoured vehicles have not been deployed in Manipur where fresh unrest has unfolded. “There has been unrest in Manipur for the last three years. Narendra Modi and Amit Shah should hold rallies there instead. They will see the difference," she told another rally at Haripal in Hooghly,

Referring to the massacre at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on its first anniversary, Ms Banerjee took a swipe at the Centre. She argued. "Terrorists came and killed Indians in Pahalgam. But they (the BJP government) can't act against Pakistan. For the Bengal polls, Mr Modi however brought in all forces.”
