Didi Urges EC Not To Be BJP's ‘Lollipop’ Over Voters’ List Revision

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday sought the Election Commission (EC) not to become a 'lollipop' of the BJP over its special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters' list ahead of Assembly polls in the state.
She said, “Everytime there is a poll, calls for NRC and dropping names from the voters' list rise. I offer my loads of respect to EC! But, please, don't become a lollipop of the BJP. Otherwise, the people of the country will not forgive you. Let the voters of Bengal be left to do their bit.”
The CM was speaking at a government event in Burdwan town. “Everytime they come here they make allegations of Bangladeshis living in Bengal. We never created Bangladesh. It's your forefathers who did it. What can we do to the similarity in our language on both sides?” she wondered.
She also argued that top global educational institutes like Oxford and Harvard cannot function without Bengalis. “Trump drove out Gujaratis (from the US) but places like Harvard, Oxford, Columbia, San Francisco cannot run without Bengalis,” Ms Banerjee claimed.
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Trinamul Congress supremo lamented that she never "expected" to call her party "Chor" during his last visit to the state. She said, “I don't expect this from the PM. I respect his chair. Similarly, he should respect our chairs also. Why would he say: I stopped the flow of funds to Bengal because all are thieves here?”
Ms Banerjee then alleged, “Uttar Pradesh, double engine governments in Maharashtra and Bihar are the biggest thieves. Look at those thieves first. 186 teams were sent to insult Bengal. You call Bengal ‘Chor’ while holding meetings with the kingpins of theft. You are so shameless. You have started coming here before the polls like migratory birds. I want you to come here 365 days. You get everything free from flight to helicopter to road to food.”
