Didi Mocks Amit Shah As ‘Acting PM’, Slams BJP Over Communal Violence

Ms Banerjee also told the union home minister, “Instead of taking care of communal riots and trying to create nuisance, try to be honest, sincere, responsible and reasonable.

Kolkata/Berhampore: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday mocked union home minister Amit Shah as the "acting Prime Minister" of the country in a veiled jibe over communal tensions and violence.

Reaching Murshidabad on a two-day visit for the first time since the communal riots during the anti-Waqf law agitation at Jangipur, the CM said in an oblique reference to Mr Shah, “I have seen 10-12 PMs. I have worked with them. As an MP, I have seen them from the front. But who is now the acting PM?”

She then wondered sarcastically, “Sorry, may I repeat? Who is the acting PM of this country? I don't know. Some students told me about it. So I ask you who he is. BJP can reply to it. But I tell him: Take care of the border.”

Ms Banerjee also told the union home minister, “Instead of taking care of communal riots and trying to create nuisance, try to be honest, sincere, responsible and reasonable. When you are in the chair, you can't divide the people.”

Highlighting the nation's mood after the deadly terror strike on a group of tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, the Trinamul Congress supremo pointed out, “Who are the heavily loaded virus? Who are always creating communal tensions and selling the country?”

She added, “Instead of doing communal violence, please take care of the border and India. We love India. It is our motherland. Save India from any disaster. Please give justice to the people who have lost their dear ones. Don't play dirty or nasty politics. I'm the last person to tolerate this.”

Ms Banerjee once again called the Jangipur communal riot “pre-planned” by the BJP and vowed to expose the truth. She claimed, “I have unearthed most of the conspiracy, I will expose this before the media. Some outsiders and religious leaders are trying to incite violence and animosity among communities. Those who are inciting riots are enemies of Bengal. Did the NHRC visit Manipur and Uttar Pradesh immediately like they did in Murshidabad…That is why I am calling it pre-planned."

Ms Banerjee alleged that had the Border Security Force, which was actually requisitioned by her government for deployment, not opened fire during the riot, the situation would have remained under control. The CM further slammed the BJP for ‘kidnapping’ the family of the slain father-son duo from their house at Zafarabad in Dhulian to scuttle her plan to hand over the compensation to them.
