Didi: Delimitation Won't Help BJP To Stay In Power
The Trinamul Congress supremo told an Assembly election rally in Coochbehar of North Bengal, “As I am holding a meeting, they are spreading lies by putting women on the front.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted on Friday that the proposed delimitation law could not save the BJP from losing power at the Centre in 2029. She alleged that BJP brought the delimitation Bill to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats by breaking the country into pieces since it was aware of its prospective defeat.
The Trinamul Congress supremo told an Assembly election rally in Coochbehar of North Bengal, “As I am holding a meeting, they are spreading lies by putting women on the front. Two-third majority is required to pass a bill. Meanwhile, the delimitation Bill has been tabled. I was compelled to send 21 MPs of my party to attend the session in Lok Sabha amidst polls.”
Lashing out at the BJP, Banerjee argued, “They know about their defeat. That's why they are breaking the nation again into pieces to increase the number of seats to around 850 seats from 543 that exist now. One day, you may find that Coochbehar, North Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Siliguri have disappeared. They have no shame and fear!”
She added, “But I believe while people think of one thing, something else happens. Virtue proclaims itself. You can continue doing what you think but you will not be in power in the future. It will take a second to get you toppled. Don't forget it.” The TMC chief also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to meet three promises he had made before coming to power.
She asked him to explain why he could not provide two crore jobs annually in 12 years, send each and every citizen ₹15 lakh to their bank accounts and bring back black money from abroad. “You are sitting here with bundles of black money but raiding TMC party offices, candidates! You are even coming to raid my plane, security personnel because you can not fight me politically. You are a party of cowards,” Banerjee observed.
Her MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee, meanwhile, dared union home minister Amit Shah to visit Kolkata on the day of election results. “I challenge Mr Shah to be in Kolkata if he has guts on May 4. I will see you after 12 pm. I will also see how big a goon you are and how much power you have! You have started the game. We will finish it,” he told a party rally.
